Orthodontic Options to Straighten Teeth

Inman Aligner

The Inman Aligner is an innovative orthodontic device and takes just 16 weeks to move teeth into the desired position. The removable device is worn for the minimum of 20 hours each day until treatment completion. The Inman Aligner uses forces generated by a coiled spring and metal bar to push and pull the teeth, causing them to move into position quickly and painlessly. Inman Aligner treatment is popular among adult patients who have crowded front teeth. Following treatment, which typically lasts between 6-16 weeks, a whitening treatment is advised to give the smile a healthy glow.

Six Month Smiles

Six Month Smiles uses state of the art technology to straighten teeth in just six months. The braces are specially formulated to move teeth quickly and treatment focuses on the visible teeth when you smile. The braces are discreet and fine in comparison to traditional fixed braces. The brackets and wires are also matched to the natural colour of the patient’s teeth. A whitening session on completion of treatment can help to give teeth a radiant finish.

Invisalign and Cfast

These treatment systems use a series of clear, removable aligners to move teeth without anyone noticing the braces. Invisalign and Cfast can be used to treat more severe cases than the Inman Aligner and Six Month Smiles, but they are not suitable for severe crowding. The aligners are removable so patients enjoy greater flexibility and there is minimum impact on speech. Treatment times are usually between 6 and 16 months, after which whitening treatments are recommended to complete a dazzling smile.

Porcelain Veneers to Straighten Teeth

Porcelain veneers are one other method used to straighten teeth. They are thin sheets of laminated porcelain shaped to mimic natural teeth, the veneers being placed over the top of existing teeth to create a flawless smile. Before the veneers are fixed into position the teeth are prepared; a thin layer of tooth tissue will be removed to make room for the new veneers. When veneers are used to straighten teeth the dentist will trim more tissue from protruding teeth to improve aesthetics.

Veneers are a popular and effective treatment because of their aesthetic benefits. They can address problems related to discolouration and gaps between the teeth. The dentist will work with you to design your new smile and ensure your happiness with the proposed results. The treatment process usually takes around 2 weeks.

The disadvantage of veneers is that a large amount of tooth tissue may need to be removed, which is often the case when teeth are severely misaligned. Orthodontic treatment may be recommended prior to having veneers.

Combining Treatments to Straighten Teeth

If teeth are severely misaligned the dentist may recommend orthodontic treatment prior to other cosmetic treatment, including porcelain veneers. Treatment using the Inman Aligner is quick and improves the alignment of teeth, so subsequent treatment will be more effective. Combining treatments is often the best option for severe cases as it prevents the dentist from having to remove a large amount of tooth structure before veneer fitting.
