The importance of a healthy mouth

Here at Mouth Matters in Chester we firmly believe that good oral health is the cornerstone for quality dental care and the key to maintaining a healthy smile for life.

A good oral home care regime is the best place to start, which is why our hygienists work with each of our patients to help them to establish the most effective routine for their own oral health needs. During dental hygiene appointments our hygienists will show patients any areas that may need further focus between appointments, because it can be tricky to see for ourselves which areas of our mouth we’re not reaching too well!

Even with the best oral care regime in the world, it is still impossible to remove all plaque and bacteria from the hard to reach places in our own mouths, which is why dental hygiene appointments are so vital. At Mouth Matters, we are pleased to offer a range of hygiene treatments, from regular cleaning and maintenance through to gum therapy, our fresh breath clinic, and even orthodontic care.

We are passionate about keeping your mouth clean because a clean mouth is a healthy mouth! In fact, a healthy mouth often means a healthy body too, as research has proven links between poor oral hygiene and health issues such as heart disease and diabetes.

Our advice

So, what do we advise in order to maintain a clean and healthy mouth?
• Brush your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. We recommend first thing in the morning and last thing at night; but always wait at least an hour after eating
• Floss daily. This cleans all the areas in between your teeth where a toothbrush can’t reach
• Visit your dentist for check-ups as often as they recommend, usually every six months. This helps them to spot any problems in the early stages while things are still easy (and cheap!) to treat
• Attend regular hygiene appointments, usually every six months unless your hygienist recommends otherwise.

At Mouth Matters we operate under direct access, meaning you can book a hygiene appointment directly, without having to see a dentist first. Get in touch today by calling 01244 343 353.
