Dental loupes

All our practitioners wear dental loupes, as all dental treatments require unique and specific skills. Loupes allow for superior vision and provide the clinician with the best possible sight and light to carry out exquisite dentistry.

Custom-made dental magnification makes general dental procedures effortless and precise. This will result in better fitting restorations, more aesthetic outcomes and longer lasting quality dentistry.

Intraoral camera

Our intraoral camera is a revolutionary patient conversation tool. We use it to accurately look at areas of the mouth which can otherwise be hard to reach, giving us a precise understanding of your oral health. It can also be used to take high-quality colour pictures of the teeth and gums, essential in treatments such as Invisalign and restorative dentistry.

The wireless camera is linked to an iPad. Therefore, we can show you the images and give you a ‘tour of your mouth’ with ease. Existing pathology, cracked fillings, gum disease and cosmetic dental problems can be explained clearly.

We pride ourselves in the ability to help our patients to improve their dental health and make informed decisions. The intraoral camera greatly facilitates this and is a popular tool with many patients.

Dental microscope

The possibilities offered by modern microscopic systems have enormously extended the limits of visualisation. A large number of dental procedures would now be inconceivable without the use of a microscope.

In dentistry, the microscope has redefined sight and illumination, particularly in the field of endodontics (root canal therapy). It is recognised as an essential element in the dentist’s armamentarium. Beyond this, the role of the microscope has received increased attention in general dentistry to further enhance the quality of private practice.

Diode laser

Laser dentistry is an innovative and effective way to perform many dental procedures. With multiple applications, it provides patients with precision treatment that will minimise pain and recovery time. If you choose a laser dentist, you may find that you feel more comfortable and less anxious during treatment.

Here are some of the major benefits associated with laser dentistry:

  • Certain dental laser procedures do not require anaesthesia
  • Bacterial infections are minimised because the high-energy beam sterilises the area being worked on
  • Damage to surrounding tissue is minimised
  • Wounds heal faster and tissues can be regenerated

Laser applications

Crown lengthening: Dental lasers can reshape gum tissue (soft tissue laser) and bone (hard tissue laser) to expose healthier tooth structure.

Gummy smile: Dental lasers can reshape gum tissue to expose healthy tooth structure and improve the appearance of a gummy smile.

Gum pocket sterilisation: Diode lasers will clean and sterilise gum pockets, thereby treating the infective areas effectively and painlessly.

Soft tissue lesions: Dental lasers may be used for the painless and suture-free removal of soft tissue lesions from the gums, palate, sides of cheeks and lips.

Cold sores: Low intensity dental lasers reduce pain associated with cold sores and minimise healing time.

Temporomandibular joint regeneration: Photobiomodulation can be used to quickly reduce pain and inflammation of the temporomandibular jaw joint.

Teeth whitening: Low intensity soft tissue dental lasers may be used to speed up the bleaching process associated with teeth whitening.

Digital dental photography

Dental photography is used at Mouth Matters on a daily basis. It is an integral component of dental education and gives a visual reference to a patient’s case. Every practitioner has the obligation to carry out the best dentistry he or she can do. Photographs of before and after cases clearly show both dentist and patients where and how the dentistry has improved.

Clinical photography as a standard procedure provides concrete and personal advice to our patients and helps them care for their oral health. It further assists to maintain clinical excellence. Our smile makeover patients love to see their smile transformation when their before and after shots are forwarded to them – it really is a wow moment!

Digital X-rays

We use state-of-the-art digital X-rays in our practice. The superior clarity and quality means even tiny imperfections in the teeth can be identified and treated, which may otherwise have been missed. With digital, the results are available to view immediately, and can be adjusted or the X-ray taken again if necessary, without the need for another appointment.
