Sport & Your Teeth!

Enjoying a sport is a great thing but unfortunately accidents happen and here at Mouth Matters we can help with prevention and treatment care.  We look after both adults and children who regularly play contact sport and assist with different oral injuries or tooth trauma.

We can help with:-

  • A knocked out or avulsed tooth
  • A fractured, broken, split, chipped or cracked tooth
  • A dislodged tooth or teeth forced into the gum line and jaw
  • Oral cuts to the gums, jaws, tongue, mouth and lips
  • Damage to orthodontic devices or tooth restorations

One of our patients was involved in a nasty rugby tackle and came to us to have two teeth replaced. He told us he had tried to manage for a time but unfortunately it had become infected as the break was so severe enough, it opened up the tooth’s pulp chamber right away. This caused the root to become infected. On this occasion, after a brief consultation,  we talked through options and we went with a simple implantation procedure to replace his missing teeth.

To avoid these sorts of accidents we believe prevention is the best method which is why we provide a service producing custom made Mouthguards.

The Mouthguard is tailored to the shape of your mouth and can be made to different degrees of thickness and using different materials. The British Dental Associationrecommends that anyone engaged in contact sports should use a well made mouthguard to reduce the risk of injury to teeth, bone and lips.  It will also reduce the risk of concussion.  A custom made guard designed by your dentist will be more comfortable to wear and more likely to stay in place on impact

Please contact us should you require any further information about our services.
